Our Story

The Magi Foundation is a Melbourne-based, charitable non-profit that began its journey in 2022 when two Ethiopian Australians joined with local partners in Addis Ababa to create an organisation grounded in hope, service, and community impact. The name “Magi” is a Latin term reflecting on our desire to bring the light of hope to those who need it.

Inspired by the story of the Three Wise Men, bearers of gifts, transformation, and renewal, the Magi Foundation continues that legacy today by offering pathways of opportunity to diverse communities across Melbourne. At the heart of the Melbourne branch are three distinctive, purpose-driven programs designed to nurture belonging, build capability, and uplift individuals from all backgrounds:

Community Sports Program: creating inclusive, empowering access to sport for young people and families.
Neurodiverse Boxing Program: In partnership with Gleason’s Gym New York, we’re delivering a non-contact boxing initiative that promotes confidence, well-being, and social connection for neurodiverse participants.
Entrepreneurship Program: supporting emerging community innovators with skills, mentorship, and real opportunities for economic empowerment.

Together, these programs reflect the Magi Foundation’s mission to ignite hope and create meaningful change through community, inclusion, and opportunity.

About The Magi Foundation

The Magi Foundation is a Melbourne-based, charitable, non-profit, and non-governmental organization with roots that trace back to April 2022 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Born from the shared vision of an Australian couple of Ethiopian descent and two Ethiopian changemakers, the Foundation was created out of a deep commitment to protecting and empowering vulnerable children across communities.

Guided by a spirit of compassion and a strong belief in equity, The Magi Foundation began as a response to the urgent need for community-led, sustainable solutions that address poverty, trauma, displacement, and social isolation. What started as a partnership grounded in love and legacy has evolved into a transnational movement bridging Australia and East Africa.

We exist to uplift children, families, and communities through programs focused on:

  • Health and healing
  • Education access
  • Child and youth protection
  • Social entrepreneurship
  • Refugee and migrant advocacy

With operations in both Ethiopia and Australia, The Magi Foundation connects grassroots action with systems-level advocacy, building safe spaces, restoring dignity, and amplifying community voices every step of the way.
